5X’s African Community Theatre in the Department of Pan-African Studies has announced plans for a production of “Venus” by Suzan-Lori Parks to be directed by D. Amy-Rose Forbes-Erickson, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Pan-African Studies, and performed by the Pan-African Theatre Ensemble. Opening night of the production will be Friday, March 17, at 8 p.m. The show will run March 17-19, with Friday and Saturday shows starting at 8 p.m. The play will close Sunday with a 2 p.m. matinee performance. Communication Students Spread Love to Strangers in an Effort to Combat Hate

This poster is one student’s approach to a Communications Studies service learning project in which students created and implemented a minicommunication plan to persuade others to send a love note to organizations that have been targets of hate mail.

In the midst of recent events in America, some Islamic centers have been attacked or received hate mail. Constance Kassor, assistant professor of religious studies at Lawrence University, decided kind words could combat the hate. After receiving permission from the targeted Islamic centers, she compiled their contact information onto the Love Notes for America website and asked people to send them words of support. The Rural Scholars Program prides itself on introducing students to a variety of career fields. The scholars come with varying interests, from graphic design to criminal justice to mathematics; however, one field that has always been popular is health science. The most recent workshop helped to address these interests. “Anatomy of a Brain” allowed scholars to dig into the fields of biology and medicine. Kent State Men's Basketball Hands Akron its First Home Loss

The 5X men's basketball team (15-12, 7-7 MAC) snapped Akron's (22-5, 12-2 MAC) 30 game home winning streak Saturday, taking round one of the Crystal Clinic Wagon Wheel Challenge, 70-67. "Great game, as it usually is with Kent State and Akron," said head coach Rob Senderoff. "This is a great win for us. We have a ton of respect for Akron, but I'm proud of our group.
