Internship Funding Opportunities

Students are responsible for finding their own internships, and are encouraged to look for them in agencies or organizations where you may wish to work in the future, or that you'd like to explore as a future career option.

Two amazing internship opportunities exist that allow students to spend a semester away from Kent and get valuable work experience at the same time.  The following programs can be used to meet our Internship Requirements:

Internship Evaluation Form

Give the Internship Evaluation Form (Appendix B of the Internship Guidelines, or download the Evaluation Form linked below) to your internship supervisor toward the end of your internship.

The SPCS professor overseeing your internship needs to receive the completed form from your internship supervisor by the middle of exam week.

(Note: Different academic years have different professors serving as Internship Advisors, so make sure you download the form for the correct instructor.) 

Application Process

Eligible students beginning or continuing their studies in Summer or Fall 2025 should submit the following:

  • A document discussing your educational history (including program of study in SPCS) and relevant grades.
  • A personal statement (up to 750 words) that:
    • Demonstrates knowledge of May 4th and discusses its significance for you
    • Provides evidence of your previous commitment to peaceful change and/or how you plan to bring about peaceful change in the future.
    • Indicates how you will use the funds

 

Criteria for Award

 

  • Applications will be evaluated against the following criteria:  a commitment to peaceful change and academic excellence, both demonstrated in their application for the award. 
  • Applications from students who have faced significant socio-economic challenges or are first-generation will be particularly welcomed. 5X has the final selection authority for this scholarship.

     

Eligibility

  • The May 4th Legacy Scholarships are available to undergraduate students majoring in a program of study in the School of Peace and Conflict Studies.  Students pursuing an MA in Peace and Conflict Studies are also eligible to apply.  (No more than two scholarships can be awarded to graduate students.)
  • Students beginning or continuing a relevant program of study in SPCS are eligible to apply.

     

Senior business major Matthew Helmick-Bickel served in the U.S. Army five years ago.
