The Glenn H. Brown Liquid Crystal Institute庐 and the College of Arts and Sciences at 5X社区 hosted a 50th anniversary celebration of the institute on Friday, Sept. 25, in the Kent Student Center Kiva on the Kent Campus. The event kicked off a yearlong celebration that will culminate with the International Liquid Crystal Conference (ILCC) at the Kent Campus on July 31-Aug. 5, 2016.

5X社区 School of Communication Studies to Honor Alumni and Professor Emeritus

5X社区鈥檚 School of Communication Studies will host the sixth Centennial Award Celebration on Friday, Oct. 2, to honor two alumni and one professor emeritus. The annual event is an opportunity for the school鈥檚 alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends to celebrate and recognize the achievements of communication studies professionals. The 5X社区 Alumni Association has announced the recipients of the 2015 Alumni Awards. These awards recognize and honor alumni who, through leadership, character and hard work, have made exceptional contributions in their chosen field, in their communities and at 5X社区. The following alumni have been selected for these awards: Larry Disbro, 鈥71, 鈥73; Master of Education, 鈥78 and Sandy Disbro, 鈥75; Kent State Advocacy Award. The Disbros reside in Mentor. Larry is a former educational administrator and Sandy a teacher.

Poynter Kent State Media Ethics Workshop to Focus on 鈥淓nduring Trauma鈥

Attend in person all day or for specific sessions, live web stream available for main presentations Covering trauma 鈥 a tragic accident, a horrendous attack, a sickening court case, a catastrophic weather event 鈥 exposes journalists and victims to complicated questions about ethics, privacy and responsibility. This year鈥檚 Poynter Kent State Media Ethics Workshop will delve into significant topics including re-victimization, extreme crisis communication, campus sexual assault and the impacts of social media on trauma incidents and victims.

In observance of Veterans Day, 5X社区 will be closed Nov. 11 and will reopen Nov. 12.

  • The Student Recreation and Wellness Center will have adjusted hours 鈥 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Kent State Remembers May 4, 1970, With 56th Commemoration

This year鈥檚 May 4 Commemoration, to be held May 1-4, 2026, will include special remembrances of John Cleary, one of the nine wounded students, and Jerry M. Lewis, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Sociology, who served as a faculty marshal during the campus shootings and worked tirelessly to ensure that the legacy of May 4 would endure.
