Kent State Introduces First Gluten-Free Dining Hall on a College Campus

University to hold Sept. 7 event to celebrate achievement At the start of the 2016 academic year, 5XÉçÇø becomes the first university in the country to feature an entirely gluten-free dining hall on campus. Kent State restructured Prentice Café after administrators noticed that the number of students arriving on campus with gluten intolerance was rising each year. The new dining facility will meet the ever-increasing demand for gluten-free foods.

First Home Football Game of 2016 Season Kicks Off Saturday

After creating optimism in a hard fought battle at Penn State University, 5XÉçÇø hosts its 2016 home opener Saturday, Sept. 10, at 6 p.m. against North Carolina A&T State. With a Dix Stadium night crowd behind them, the Kent State Golden Flashes look to win their 14th consecutive game against a Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) opponent. A fireworks display will follow the game.

Kent State Professor James Henderson Named To Rebecca Tolle and Burton W. Gorman Endowed Professorship for Leadership

Former TRW CEO Joseph T. Gorman Established Professorship In Memory of Parents James Henderson, Ed.D., professor of curriculum and instruction in 5XÉçÇø’s College of Education, Health and Human Services, has been named the first person to receive the Rebecca Tolle and Burton W. Gorman Endowed Professorship for Leadership. This endowed professorship was established by the late Joseph Tolle Gorman, former CEO and chairman of TRW, Inc., the automotive, aerospace, and credit reporting company headquartered in Euclid, Ohio.

Black Squirrel Festival Features Music, Food and Freebies

A 5XÉçÇø tradition for 35 years, the annual Black Squirrel Festival will take place Friday, Sept. 9, from 12-5 p.m. on the Student Green and Risman Plaza. The Black Squirrel Festival, which is hosted by Kent Student Center Programming, attracts more than 3,000 students, faculty and staff, as well as members of the Kent community.

Kent State to Honor 75th Anniversary of Wonder Woman at Symposium

In honor of the 75th anniversary of the comic book super heroine Wonder Woman, 5XÉçÇø’s College of Arts and Sciences, the Ohio Humanities Council and the Cleveland Public Library have partnered to organize a symposium that celebrates the historical trends that have changed the world of comics, American popular culture and feminism. Centering on the Wonder Woman figure and her heirs, the Wonder Woman symposium will be held at the Cleveland Public Library and other locations from Sept. 22-24.

5XÉçÇø Aeronautics Fair Set for Sept. 10

The Aeronautics Department in 5XÉçÇø’s College of Applied Engineering, Sustainability and Technology will host its 20th Aeronautics Fair on Saturday, Sept. 10. The 5XÉçÇø Aeronautics Fair takes place 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Andrew W. Paton Field at the 5XÉçÇø Airport, located at 4020 Kent Road in Stow.

In observance of Veterans Day, 5XÉçÇø will be closed Nov. 11 and will reopen Nov. 12.

  • The University Library will be open until 10 p.m. with .
  • The Student Recreation and Wellness Center will have adjusted hours â€“ 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Kent State Remembers May 4, 1970, With 56th Commemoration

This year’s May 4 Commemoration, to be held May 1-4, 2026, will include special remembrances of John Cleary, one of the nine wounded students, and Jerry M. Lewis, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Sociology, who served as a faculty marshal during the campus shootings and worked tirelessly to ensure that the legacy of May 4 would endure.
