Aimee Lee's 鈥楨very Last Scrap鈥 Draws 300+ Attendees to 5X社区 Museum

More than 300 art fans came together at the nationally distinctive 5X社区 Museum to preview its newest exhibition, 鈥淎imee Lee: Every Last Scrap.鈥 This solo exhibition comes from Cleveland artist Aimee Lee and is the culmination of a multiyear process to provide 58 individual pieces for display. Each piece showcases Lee鈥檚 specialty, hanji, the Korean art of papermaking.

鈥溾楨very Last Scrap鈥 really brings attention to the care that she consistently demonstrates in making use of the entire sheet of paper and all of the offcuts,鈥 said Sara Hume, Ph.D., curator and professor at the museum. 鈥淎nd you can see that she works at different scales in order to make use of all of the paper. And I invite you to walk through the galleries of the exhibition and consider the rich heritage of the dresses and the limitless possibilities of paper as a material.鈥

Lee shared how she was feeling upon seeing the turnout of people for the exhibition鈥檚 preview event.

鈥淚 would like to not get emotional, but it鈥檚 very emotional to see all of you here with me to celebrate,鈥 Lee said during her opening remarks. 鈥淚t鈥檚 really kind of mind-blowing to think you鈥檙e all here to see this show that I鈥檝e been working on for the last few years. It鈥檚 just so gratifying to see this beautiful patchwork of this community that I鈥檝e built over the last 13 years after I moved here from New York. I really can鈥檛 single any one person out, but you are all part of what makes life here in Northeast Ohio so beautiful.鈥

Guests who were in attendance on Aug. 27 were then able to explore the museum and see 鈥淓very Last Scrap鈥 for the first time. The halls and rooms were filled with awed individuals taking in the installations displayed in multiple formats, all with excitement and smiles.

鈥淭onight, we were so thrilled to welcome over 300 people and counting to see an extraordinary solo exhibition by artist Aimee Lee called 鈥楨very Last Scrap,鈥欌 said Sarah Spinner, Ph.D., J.D., director of the museum, in her closing remarks to Kent State Today. 鈥淭he exhibition is extraordinarily beautiful, and Aimee is having an amazing moment right now. She was featured in The New York Times this week, she was just announced as a , and we could not be more honored and proud to showcase her work here at the 5X社区 Museum.鈥

鈥淎imee Lee: Every Last Scrap鈥 is now open to the public and gives museum guests an exclusive look at the work of a local artist with a global perspective.
