Chasie Fry is a senior majoring in Speech Pathology and has already found Kent State鈥檚 Recreation and Wellness Services to be a space for growth, connection, and leadership. She began working at the Recreation and Wellness Center in October 2023 as an Operations Assistant and now serves as an Operations & Guest Services Supervisor.
In her role, Chasie acts as a facility leader, responsible for overseeing facility operations and daily staff at the Warren Student Recreation and Wellness Center. She serves as a primary point of contact during on-shift emergencies or conflicts, providing direction to Operations Specialists and Assistants. Additionally, she takes on the role of a reservation specialist, shadowing to become a lead. On the team, she helps schedule major events and reservations within the Recreation and Wellness Center. Within these roles, she has sharpened essential skills in communication, leadership, and time management 鈥 attributes that go beyond the facility鈥檚 walls. Here, she has learned many viable components that promote success as a future speech pathologist.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of the job has been her opportunity for growth. Chasie has been able to join different teams and eventually get promoted to the position she is in now. Stepping into a supervisory position taught her the importance of making sure everyone feels confident in their role and supported. Balancing the intention of taking the job seriously while still finding enjoyment in the part she plays has been exemplified as she trained to be a role model in Operations & Guest Services.
Chasie credits her coworkers with forming meaningful friendships and making college a more comfortable setting. As she is around fellow students with challenging majors and busy schedules has motivated to push herself both academically and professionally. Earning feedback and encouragement at work helped her stay motivated in the classroom and receive a five-semester President鈥檚 List spot.
Outside of RecWell, Chasie stays especially involved on campus. She serves as the president of Best Buddies, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending the social, physical, and economic isolation of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Furthermore, she is an active member of Operation Smile and the National Student Speech Language Hearing Affiliated organization (NSSHLA). Her participation closely aligns with her academic and professional goals in speech pathology, displaying her passion for her career post-graduation.
When asked to advise a student on their first day in Ops, she says simply, 鈥淕o for it 鈥 the memories and leadership opportunities are very worthwhile.鈥
One fun fact about Chasie? She is an impressive juggler. She can juggle with a volleyball and even handle extra ones thrown in mid-performance! Just one more example of the balance and skill she brings to everything she does.
