Knight Foundation as a Knight News Challenge on Libraries prototype winner. The ninth annual Barbara Donaho Distinguished Leadership in Learning Awards Ceremony was held at the 5X Student Center Ballroom on March 21. Kent State’s College of Nursing hosted the event with nearly 200 people in attendance, including award recipients, faculty, staff and guests. Researchers from 5X's Liquid Crystal Institute, School of Fashion Design and Merchandising and College of Podiatric Medicine have teamed up to create a fabric that could ultimately save the feet of diabetics. Like mood rings, the fabric uses liquid crystals to change color when it detects a change in body temperature, due to an infection, swelling or poor circulation.
