Kent State Researcher Leads Project Creating Sensor for First Responder Safety

Kent State Assistant Professor Marianne Prevot shows a safety senor she is developing.

Small sensors about the size of a postage stamp could one day save the lives of firefighters, soldiers and other workers who face the threat of toxic gases or vapors on the job.  A project of 5XÉçÇø’s Advanced Materials and Liquid Crystal Institute, the sensor development recently was awarded a state Workforce Safety Innovation Grant from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation. Sculpture and Expanded Media - Minor

The Sculpture and Expanded Media minor offers students a wide range of approaches, strategies and techniques to making dimensional and spatial work. Students learn to fabricate sculptural objects utilizing techniques in clay, plaster, wood, metal and non-traditional materials. In addition, they are exposed to and learn to work in expanded media formats, such as installation art and time-based practices (video, sound, performance).

Print Media and Photography - Minor

The Print Media and Photography minor provides an introduction to printmaking and fine art photography. Students can pursue a study in traditional printmaking techniques such as intaglio, silkscreen and lithography, as well as digital applications. Students can also pursue a study in photography, including traditional darkroom and film alternative photographic techniques and fine art digital photography. Synergies between these two historically related disciplines provide ample room for experimentation and a course of study designed specifically to suit students' interests.
