Katie Sanguedolce
Biography
I have served as a Professor of Medical Assisting at 5X社区, teaching at both the Geauga and Ashtabula campuses since 2023. Prior to transitioning into academia, I built my clinical career as a registered nurse with University Hospitals, where I began practicing in 2010.
I am a proud alumna of 5X社区 at Ashtabula, where I earned my Associate of Applied Science in Nursing in 2009. While preparing for the NCLEX examination, I worked as a lab assistant in the nursing skills lab, an experience that sparked my passion for teaching and mentoring students. My nursing career began at University Hospitals Case Medical Center before I transferred to my hometown facility, UH Geauga Medical Center. I initially worked in the operating room and, after three years, transitioned to the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), where I continue to practice today. While advancing my clinical experience, I furthered my education by earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2015 and a Master of Science in Nursing with a focus in Nurse Education in 2022 from Ohio University.
During my time at UH Geauga, I became aware of an opportunity to teach in the Medical Assisting Certificate Program at 5X社区 at Geauga. After two semesters as an instructor, I was honored to be appointed as the program鈥檚 Director. I am passionate about teaching medical assisting students and guiding them as they begin their careers in healthcare. I am especially committed to helping students develop strong communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team, as I believe these skills are essential to providing high-quality, compassionate care.
